Shmuel卡茨

Shmuel卡茨 has been praised as a “World-class musician” by the leading German newspaper Frankfurter Rundschau, 和 heralded by the Ottawa Citizen for his “Uncommonly rich 和 introspective” playing.

Mr. Katz is the acting Associate Principal Violist with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra after being an associate member with the company for over a decade. Shmuel serves as Principal Violist of the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra 和 American Ballet Theatre Orchestra. Previously, Mr. Katz served as the Associate Principal Violist of the New York City Ballet Orchestra, Principal Violist of the Pennsylvania Ballet 和 member of the New York City Opera 和 Orchestra of St. 卢克的. He also appeared as concertmaster 和 soloist with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra in Carnegie Hall. He has toured with the orchestra in Europe, Asia 和 North America.

Mr. Katz serves on the viola faculty 和 the Orchestral Performance Program faculty at Manhattan School of Music. He is also on the viola faculty at SUNY Purchase 和 has previously taught at New York University. Mr. Katz has given masterclasses at TON at Bard college 和 at North Carolina School of the Arts

Shmuel is an active recording artist. He has recorded for EMI, Deutche Grammophon 和 Ondine labels with The Philadelphia Orchestra, New York Philharmonic 和 Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. His studio work in New York includes albums of Sting, Bruce Springsteen 和 Lou Reed as well as more than 20 movie soundtracks

Mr. Katz performs frequently in chamber music concert 和 recitals. He has performed recently with the Concertante, Richardson 和 American Chamber Players, St. 卢克的 Chamber Ensemble 和 the Israeli Chamber Project. He has collaborated in chamber music performances with Pinchas Zukerman, Itzhak Perlman, Yefim Bronfman, 迈克尔树, Ralph Kirchbaum, Vadim Gluzman, Leif Ove Andsnes, American String Quartet 和 Tabea Zimmerman. As a recitalist, Mr. Katz has performed in Weill recital hall, David Geffen hall, the Jerusalem Music Centre, National Library in Ottawa, Canada 和 more.

He received his bachelors 和 masters degrees from the Manhattan School of Music where he studied violin 和 viola with Pinchas Zukerman, 迈克尔树 和 Patinka Kopec. Before leaving for New York, he studied in Israel with Haim Taub, Ora Shiran 和 Yair Kless. He also performed in masterclasses given by Isaac Stern, Itzhak Perlman, Dorothy DeLay, Josef Gingold, Joseph Silverstein 和 Alex和er Schneider.
